About the BoardQ: How do I set up an avatar?
A: To set up your avatar:
First, you need to save the avatar to your computer. Then you need to upload it to your own web storage site (like
www.photobucket.com. Photobucket accounts are free and pretty easy to set up.)
Now, look up to the top of the board. Under the banner, in little writing, click on "profile," (right beside "logout").
Next to "Member's Bio," click on the link called "Modify Profile."
Scroll down to the section called "Personal Information." In the field called "Avatar URL" put the link to the avatar. (At photobucket it gives it to you under the photo in the picture album in a field called "Url.")
For "Avatar Width" and "Avatar Height" put 100 in each field. (That's what most others are.)
"Personal Text" is whatever you want it to say under your avatar.
Click "Modify Profile" at the bottom of the page and your avatar is set up.
You can also set up other features in this section like signatures and website links.
Q: How do I set up my signature?A: You can add images to your signature, but we ask that you not put too many or make them too large. A good size for a signature picture is not taller than 300 pixels, and not wider than 500 pixels. You can also add text and links to your signature. You can use use the following UBBC codes to enhance your signature: bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, text alignment, and colors.
Q: Can I have a picture in my signature?A: Yes, but please keep the image no bigger than 300 x 500 pixels.
Q: What is a "PM"?A: A "PM" is short for "personal message" or "private message." These are messages that can only be seen by the person they are sent to. No one else on the board can read them.
Q: How do I PM someone?A: There are two ways to PM someone.
1. You can click on their name and view their profile. Then click on "Send Personal Message."
2. In the mini-profile (the section of the board that is next to their post), click on this graphic
.
Type your subject line and the message then click on the "send personal message" button to send it.
Q: How long will I be a "New Shopper"?A: Your rank is set by how many posts you make.
0 - 24 posts = New Shopper
25 - 49 posts = Window Shopper
50 - 74 posts = Hammer Shopper
75 - 99 posts = Big Spender
100-199 = Shopaholic
200+ = Compulsive Shopper
Q: How do I add the smilies to my post?A: If you are using the "Quick Reply" box, you can add smilies by using the drop down menu. Just select the smilie you want, then click on it to add the smilie code to your post. If you are using the reply button (
), the main smilies will appear above the post box. Click on them and they will be entered into your message. There are also smilies in the drop down box to the left of the post box and just below the drop down is a View all smilies option. A seperate window will open with a collection of smilies to choose from as well.
Q: How do I use a quote from a previous post in my reply?A: Just click on the "quote" button (
) in the person's post you want to quote. The box opens up for you to post a message and the quote is already inserted.
Q: Why do some of the folders by the threads have flames on them? Why do some have other pictures on them?A: After a thread receives a certain amount of posts, it becomes a "hot" or frequently replied to topic. They put the little flaming graphic by it so people can see what the popular discussions are. A sticky thread, the ones tacked down at the top of the boards, are marked by the mods to keep them at the top because they contain info that we want everyone to see. We can unsticky them too once the info becomes less important. Sticky posts do not turn hot, no matter how many replies because a thread can only have one or no icon beside it.
Q: How do I quote just a portion of a previous post? A: Once you click on quote, and the quote pops onto the message block you are replying in, use your mouse to carefully remove any part of the quote you don't need. Be sure to not mess with the part around the quote tags though or you will mess up the quote appearance on your post.
Q: Can I hide my online status?A: Go to your profile and you can select to be "invisible" which means you won't appear as online. But, of course, the admins will know you are.
Q: Sometimes I go to post a message, and it tells me that I'm not logged in. How can I fix this?
A: When you log in, you can set yourself to be logged in from 6 hourse to "forever" (it will be in the drop down menu below where you enter your password). If you choose "forever," you won't have to log in again unless you clear your browser cookies.
Q: I don't get notification/registration e-mails!A: Most people experience this problem with Hotmail. Check your junkmail bin. Sometimes they are redirected through the filter.
Also, the newest versions of AOL have the "advanced SPAM blockers" and may make it impossible for Proboards to contact you. Admins may have to manually register members who experience this problem. Or we recommend that these people create temporary free e-mails (ie. yahoo.com).
Q: I login fine, but when I click a link it logs me out!A: Your browser is not accepting cookies properly. First check to make sure you have cookies enabled. Also, in Internet Explorer 6 you need to make sure that you have 3rd Party Cookies enabled.
You may need to enable cookies. Click on tools on the menubar on your browser. Click on Internet Options on the drop menu. On the window that pops up, click on the privacy tab. Check the box to allow cookies.
Q: Can I be a mod?A: We will offer the position of moderator to certain individuals who come and give quality support to the people who come to these forums. Very few people are mods here, do not feel bad if you are not chosen to be a mod. Please do not post asking to be a mod; we will contact you if we believe you have what it takes.
Q: How can I help with site costs? Can I buy ad-free time for the board?A: We would prefer you spend you money supporting the band, by buying merch, street team supplies, and concert tickets. If the ads are really annoying you, we suggest trying the Firefox browser and adding the "ad-block" extension. You'll never know the ads are even there.
