Hey dudes! It has been awhile since I wrote. I think my main problem is having oo many places to write, I sort of lose track of them. I have written a bit on MySpace, so check that out if you want....
hmmmmm, what can i talk about. Oh, I know. I was pretty upset with music and bands in general. I am always searching for new music and bands, but was having trouble finding anything that I really liked. Seems like most albums out there pretty much suck - maybe one or two decent tunes on an album and the rest just shit. Buckcherry's album is pretty solid, but I can't think of another album which has at least 4 songs that I like - pretty sad. It seemed like in the past albums had the radio hits that everone liked - 2 or 3, and then another 2 or 3 that you liked personally, or fans loved at the shows that could never be singles, but still rad songs - cult type songs if you will..... Sooooo, I then began going to live shows to see if maybe it wasn't translating onto the cds - again, I fell short of finding anyone that I really enjoyed, or a concert that I didn't want to leave after like 2 songs. I did see The Police, who I have never really liked, but thought they wer unbelievable - to play Wrigley Field with NO backing tracks (just 3 instruments) is truly amazing. I don't think I have seen a band in the past 5-10 years that didn't hav backing tracks, so to see these guys pull it off and sound GREAT was amazing. The opening band was really cool too - FictionPlane. I actually bought their cd that night. I did like them live better though..... Oh, yeah I better go back and explain something - that is right my little kiddies, at least 90% of the bands you see are playing with backing tracks - some more than others, but most are.
So I am at this all time low as far as believing in music and bands, etc when a miracle happens. I am at Lollapolooza and I see this little band called Pearl Jam come on stage. Last time I saw them, I vowed never to see them or support them again. I thought that they didn't care anymore and were going through the motions, which is not fair for all the fans that have paid so much money over the years to support them, and buy tix to their shows. I did buy their latest album though, and thought it was their best in years. Anyway, seeing these guys on stage, rockin out like it was 1994 was an inspiration and one of the greatest shows I have ever been to. They were into it, they cared, they mixed new, old, and had great crowd interaction - it was just a great show. They didn't play perfect, or sound like their record, they sounded like PJ live, which is really really cool (another band with no backing tracks) They basically saved my rock and roll soul - hey, that is a great song title - SEE WHAT I MEAN - new inspiration - LOL!
Seeing PJ was exactly what I needed to get my creative juices flowing again.
ohhhhh, wait - Nikki Sixx has that new side project out for his book Heroin Diaries, and the first song is really cool too! They have a MySpace page out and you can hear it and see the video.....
what else.... we are FINALLY almost done with Driving Blind. We decided to really challenge ourselves and throw in an orchestra to the mix. We will be recording it with the orchestra on Wednesday - can't wait!!!!!! I think you can pre-order the Acoustic Chicago cd now at stonecutter records or acoustic chicago.com - we will have more info on that as well.....
sorry there is no real flow or organization to this blog, just thoughts spit out on the screen, but I hope you can get the jist of it.
OOOPS, ALMOST FORGOT!!!! I want everyone to get a new shirt that we have that says Make Rock Not War on it. Get it and let's see if we can make a differece - get it, and tell everyone you know to get it. If the whole world is wearing one, maybe people will stat to listen..... check it out at www.lhstore.com
